Online Recruitment is Increasingly Popular
10 percent of jobs are filled
through the Internet in the US, according Terri Bonar-Stewart, CEO of a Cincinnati based
consulting company. While networking remains the dominant form of recruitment, the
Internet is becoming a popular alternative recruitment medium.
One of the main advantages recruiting online is the fact
that the Internet is active for 24 hours a day, 365 days a year thus there is maximum
exposure to potential employees. In addition, the advertising reach of the medium is both
greater than the print medium or television and also more easily targeted.
The Internet allows companies to identify a specific
demographic and target that demographic group through specialised Web sites and niche
portals. Additionally companies can link to sites where the ideal candidate for a given
job might be found perusing.
The Internet also allows companies to adopt multi-tiered
strategies and post adverts in several relevant locations across the Web, not just the
company Web site.
However, when advertising online its important to be
aware of the potentially huge response for a single advert. To avoid confusion, the
application process should be databased and made as simple as possible. Providing an email
address is not enough.
The online recruitment business has grown exponentially
since the Internet began to take off in 1995.
